CONFERENCE Corral: Conferences Go Online

REMEMBER WHEN we used to go to conferences? It wasn't that long ago. We traveled by car, train, or plane; met with friends and colleagues; ate inside of restaurants; went to sessions; and had illuminating conversations with speakers and peers. That was then; this is now. Instead of going to conferences, we are bombarded with emails about cancellations and postponements. Perhaps even more prevalent are the emails announcing, "We're going online!" Every organization that holds conferences interprets the move to online somewhat differently. The Special Libraries Association (sla.org) moved its in-person conference dates from June to October, with the venue remaining in Charlotte, N.C. Internet Librarian is expected to remain an in-person conference in Monterey, Calif, Oct. 20-22. In the U.K., CILIP Scotland (cilip.org.uk) plans to meet in Dundee in October, while the main CILIP conference (cilipconference.org.uk) is scheduled for Southport, Nov. 3-4, with ALA executive director Tracie D. Hall as its keynote speaker.
