Scitopia: Worthy Effort; Worth Your Effort?

Scitopia.org is a freely available, web-based federated search portal. It is focused on discovering the peer-reviewed intellectual capital (publications, conference papers, technical reports, and patents) of some of the world's most prestigious scientific and technical professional associations and societies. These range from large organizations, such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and American Geophysical Union (AGU), to the smaller, niche players such as the AVS (formerly known as the American Vacuum Society) and the Audio Engineering Society (AES). It also searches the U.S., European, and Japanese Patent Office databases and the U.S. Department of Energy Information Bridge database for its government documents. Scitopia was launched at SLA's annual conference in June 2007. It came out of beta in October 2007, and enhancements are expected later this year.
