I should add that I know Cory Doctorow. I first met him at Forbidden Planet, a London bookstore, in 2008, when he was doing a book signing for his book Little Brother (Tom Doherty Associates, 2008). I still don't know if he was impressed when I told him I'd just gotten off a plane from Indiana to come to his book signing. That was literally true. I'd landed in Heathrow, took the tube to my hotel, dropped off my suitcase, and headed over to Lonely Planet. He may have thought that was perfectly normal behavior.
