The Blogging Revolution discusses the impact of blogging in six countries with repressive governments: Iran, Egypt, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Cuba and China. Each country was visited by the author in an attempt to meet political bloggers and discuss the impact of blogs, and the internet more generally, on their lives and their political activities. While in the West there may be a tendency to homogenise repressive government attitudes towards the web, Loewenstein shows the vast differences in both the use of the web and the authorities' attitudes towards it across the different regimes. Whereas Iran and Egypt are seemingly countries with vibrant political blogospheres (with potentially brutal consequences), China's blogosphere is less politically active, whilst Cuba's is virtually non-existent due to the heavy restrictions on access to the internet.
