VALUATION OF PIPELINES: THE TRANS-ALASKA DECISION

The number of estimated miles of oil and gas pipelines in the United States ranges from 1,200,000, 1,726.359 (2013), 2.5, and 2.6 million miles, and of the total about 199,000 miles are liquid pipelines. According to the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association, there is enough underground natural gas and liquid pipelines to circle the earth at the equator about 20 times. Approximately 65 percent are in the U.S., 8 percent in Russia, and 3 percent in Canada. There are generally two types of pipelines: liquid petroleum pipelines and natural gas pipelines.
