With profits plunging 24% in the last quarter, BP will slash another 5,000 jobs by mid-2009. The new cuts announced by CEO Tony Hayward are in addition to the 9,950 positions that will be axed as a result of the major's plan to sell off its c-stores, fire business support staff and revamp its pipeline and logistics unit (OE 11/19/07).
