Since July 1, heating oil in Rhode Island has been blended with at least 2% biodiesel, as the state's biodiesel mandate began implementation. The Biodiesel Heating Oil Act of 2013 was signed into law in July 2013, with the intent of pushing Rhode Island to the forefront of the biofuels industry and to provide cleaner fuels, said legislators who supported the bill. Early indications are that the program is running smoothly, though the heating oil season has yet to start, industry sources said.
