New York, Rhode Island Lawmakers Approve ‘Bioheat’ Mandates

The New York state legislature on June 23 approved a biodiesel mandate requiring all No. 2, off-road heating oil sold in the state to contain at least a 2% blend of biodiesel (B2) – known in the industry by the trademarked name “Bioheat” – according to a June 24 National Biodiesel Board (NBB) announcement. The bill now goes to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), who is expected to sign it into law. Pending approval, the law would take effect in select southern counties (Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester and Rockland) by October 1, 2014. The mandate would go into effect by July 1, 2015 in remaining New York counties.
