Murphy USA slows growth of new-builds

Murphy USA has pulled back on new-to-industry builds in the near term but expects to resume a rate of 50-55 new stores annually beyond 2022. The plans were disclosed by CEO Andrew Clyde in Murphy's second-quarter earnings conference call, when he celebrated the effort of employees despite challenges presented by COVID-19, driver shortages, and the four-day loss of supply after a ransomware attack on the Colonial Pipeline. Murphy had planned 50 stores in 2021 but cited supply chain issues and in particular limitations with the resin associated with underground tanks. This “created delays in our build schedule where we’re pushing more 2021 stores into 2022 with that cascade continuing into 2023,” Clyde said.
