Technology: Consumers see skimmers as a threat

Although key research has indicated skimming crimeas a whole is on the decline, consumers aren’t convinced,according to a recent survey of 1,050 Americans fromCompareCards, a payment card evaluation website.For the second consecutive year, the percentage ofAmerican motorists who said they have been a victim of cardskimming at the gas pump has grown “significantly,” thereport said. In a survey late last year, nearly one-third of thosepurchasing gas in the prior 30 days said they thought they hadbeen a victim of either credit or debit card skimming at thepump, up from 23% in 2019 and 15% in 2018.
