Trends: Motor fuel demand for ICE vehicles may peak by 2025

Fuel demand for internal combustion engine (ICE)light-duty vehicles will peak within the next six yearsbefore shrinking to levels seen about a decade ago by 2040,according to a new report by ExxonMobil.While driven in part by electrification, the decline indemand will come as a result of efficiency gains by all types ofvehicles, according to the oil major’s 2019 Outlook for Energy.The report projects that fuel demand for ICE light-dutyvehicles will peak before 2025 and then decline to levelsseen in the early 2010s by 2040.
