SCORE funding advances plan for turbine habitat

The Supply Chain innovation for Offshore Renewable Energy (SCORE) grant programme has awarded more than £50,000 to GEV Offshore, a specialist engineering and offshore access company, to enable the company to take its pioneering habitat structure for the offshore renewable sector to the next phase. Maintenance, inspection and repair of offshore wind turbines often has to be carried out in less than optimal conditions, and with the next generation of windfarms being built further offshore, this challenge is only going to increase. The SCORE grant has enabled GEV Offshore to recruit a full-time project director to drive forward the habitat venture and bring it to market as well as assisting in funding the development of a prototype that will undergo field trials early in 2015.
