As mentioned by some of the major Norwegian players in their end-of-year financial results, the AHTS segment of the OSV market has been particularly challenging of late. While some softening of the market has to be expected over the winter period, vessel owners will be looking for the market to tighten up significantly in the upcoming weeks, to avoid assets up to US$100 million being left idle at UK and Norwegian ports for too long. Throughout February and during the first week of March, there were over 30 AHTS vessels promptly available for charter, mainly from Aberdeen and Bergen. Availability to this extent results in just one thing - a severe drop in day-rates, something which will only change if demand picks up and fewer vessels are trading the market.
