Damen says no deal yet with Rosneft

Damen Shipyards Group in The Netherlands has denied it has signed a deal with Rosneft in Russia for the construction of two offshore vessels. A spokesperson for Damen told OSJ talk of a deal was premature. European Union sanctions against Russia mean that any vessels Rosneft ordered could not be built in The Netherlands. Reports in Russia suggest designs developed by Damen could be built at a Russian yard, but Damen says it is still exploring whether this would be possible under the sanctions regime. It has been suggested that Zvezda Shipyard in Russia is being lined up to build two ice-class multifunction support vessels. Damen has a growing portfolio of offshore vessels including ice-class ships, and ice-class Damen designs were ordered by Atlantic Towing in Canada in 2014. The Russian contract, if signed, would also include options for two more vessels, but Damen says it is still early days.
