As exploration moves into greater water depths and distance from shore, developing specialist equipment has become the province of a relatively small number of specialist engineering concerns. Included in that number is Peterhead-based Maritime Developments, which, in its relatively short life of 15 years, has progressed from rethinking tensioner design and performance to producing a new generation of wheel drives and lay systems. Most recently, the company has patented a new portable lay system and secured its first order for it.
