There is no doubt that the challenges in the offshore market are taking a particular toll on oil service companies. Many have tripped covenants in their loan agreements and seen their share price fall well below underlying asset values, making implementation of a revised capital structure a much needed but difficult task. The industry is in survival mode, where some will pull through and some inevitably will fail. As in previous downturns, there will also be those players who are able to find opportunities for growth through consolidations and acquisition of distressed assets and companies.
