Although promising to be a better year than last, 2011 has started without any great flurry of activity. January, which is traditionally a quiet month in the Asian OSV business, has seen very few enquiries being issued and even fewer fixtures, but of greater concern for vessel owners are the lengthening availability lists. One broker list details over 200 OSVs available in the next few months, with at least 75% of these vessels available immediately around Asia. Correspondingly, rates have nosedived, and as some indication of the poor market conditions, one owner recently fixed a new 16,000 bhp DP2 AHTS for a reported USD 13,000 per day.
