As Petronas Carigali starts to secure vessels for some of its long-term charters, the number of available AHTS in major Asian ports is beginning to fall. Correspondingly, the drilling and construction season is coming into full effect as the Northwest Monsoon subsides and the market inquiries, which were prevalent in January, turn into firm requirements. In Malaysia it was no great surprise that both Alam Maritim and Perdana Petroleum scored significant contracts for multiple vessels with Petronas Carigali in February. With a reported value of around MYR 618 million (USD 200 million) Perdana Petroleum secured five 10,800 bhp AHTS including the Petra Expedition, Voyager, Adventurer and Traveller for five years, while six Alam Maritim vessels, including three 5,150 bhp and two 10,800 bhp AHTS also commenced five-year charters with Petronas Carigali. The booking up of a large part of the domestic fleet opened up opportunities for foreign-flagged vessels in Malaysia, including Jaya's Jaya Defender 10,800 bhp AHTS and the Jaya Almighty 5,150 bhp AHTS, which were secured for mid-term charters with Petronas Carigali.
