Lease Sale No. 207 brings in US$487 million in high bids

Western Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale No. 207, held by the U.S. Minerals Management Service in New Orleans on Aug. 20, attracted interest from both major oil companies and smaller independents. The sale offered 3,412 tracts in the Western leasing area offshore Texas, covering over 18.3 million acres. A total of 53 companies participated in the bidding, submitting 423 bids on 319 tracts. The sum of all apparent high bids was US$487,297,676. The sum of all bids received was US$607,134,968. The lease sale was more successful than last year's Sale No. 204 in the area, when 47 companies submitted 358 bids on 282 tracts, for a total of US$289,953,066 in high bids.
