The Radial Wellbay Spar design, created through a joint industry partnership by the same name, rearranges the spar's traditional matrix of well slots into a circular pattern around the perimeter of the wellbay. This design opens up the space in the center of the wellbay.FloaTEC came up with the bones of the design after it began looking at ways to continue revenues from truss spars once patent protection on the design ceases in 2014, notes FloaTEC's John Murray, director of technology development.
