Prosecution highlights loading dangers

Warrington-based recycling firm, European Metal Recycling Ltd, has beenrnfined after an agency worker was seriously injured when he fell as he loaded goodsrnonto a lorry trailer. The man dislocated fingers on his left hand, broke his left wristrnand fractured vertebrae in his neck as a result of the ten foot fall. He was in hospital for five days and had to wear a neck brace for three months. The company pleaded guilty torncontravening Regulation 4(1) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005, in that it failed to ensure that work at height was planned, properly supervised and carried out safely. It was fined ￡2,500 and ordered to pay around the same in costs.
