Around one fifth of all NHS staff suffered a work-related injury in 2007 and a third believed they were suffering from stress as a result of their job, a survey of over 155,000 healthcare workers has revealed. The Healthcare Commission survey of staff from all 341 NHS trusts in England found that reported injuries were due mainly to moving and handling, needle-stick and sharps, slips, trips andrnfalls, and exposure to dangerous substances.rnHealthcare workers also continue to face significant levels of violence and abuse in the workplace. The survey found that violence was most prevalent in ambulance and mental health trusts, where around a quarter of workers had experienced physical violence in 2007. 42% of ambulance workers said they feel that their vehicles do not provide a safe working environment.
