Extra staff to tackle hospital bugs

Every hospital trust in England will be able to recruit two infection control nurses, two isolation nurses and an antimicrobial pharmacist. Health Secretary Alan Johnson said as he announced new funding for infection control in the NHS. ￡270 million extra funding perrnyear will be available to the NHS by 2010/11 to support infection control and cleanliness in hospitals. Out of this, ￡45 million will be availble to hire new key staff members.
