Protecting outdoor workers from UV exposure

With the Met Office predicting a warmer than average summer, employers need to ensure that any workers who spend a lot of time outdoors are given the right information and advice to protect themselves from UV rays from the sun.rnExcessive ultra violet (UV) exposure is an occupational hazard for those who work outside. It is also the main cause of both kinds of skin cancer - non-melanoma and malignant melanoma (which is less common but more serious). Too much exposure to UV damages the DNA in skin cells which increases the risk of skin cancer and makes skin age faster. Outdoor workers receive, on average, three to four times more UV exposure each year than people who work indoors.
