Gas company fined over major LPG leak

Calor Gas Ltd has been fined ￡27,500 after a major gas leak led to a cloud of highly flammable Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) forming above its terminal in Essex.rnAround 163 tonnes of LPG escaped from a pipeline as it was being transferred from a ship to the company's terminal on Canvey Island in October 2008. The gas, which is stored in a liquid form, evaporated on contact with the ground, forming an extremely flammable and explosive vapour cloud above the site.
