摘要

Boxing Day 2004. The worst tsunami in history strikes the coastlines of countries around the Indian Ocean. One of the greatest natural disasters of all time will account for over 230,000 deaths, including British and European. Days later, in the UK, police instigate Operation Bracknell, deploying eighty officers overseas. The large-scale, multi-national effort included establishing four temporary mortuaries in Thailand alone.Dr Eileen Cahill-Canning, chief medical officer with the Metropolitan Police, went to Thailand to work with the Met's Disaster Victim Implementation team (DVI). Her role was to assist with the body recovery operation and provide occupational health support to officers and staff engaged in the recovery and identification of bodies.
