摘要

Imagine if workplace hazards could multiply like bugs. Suppose each speck of dust, each molecule of gas, each drop of vapour that got inside your lungs could breed. Goodbye quantitative risk assessments. Goodbye health. Goodbye safety. Your life now dangles on a terminally anorexic thread. But, of course, micro-organisms behave just like this. Once we let them in, we become their breeding and feeding grounds. And when they have fed and bred they bide their time. They don't kill us. They don't make us ill. Not immediately. They wait until we have ferried them to their next snack bar, usually an unsuspecting colleague, friend or family member, or indeed anyone else unlucky enough to bump into us.
