Luton Borough Council has beenfined after a teacher was seriouslyassaulted by a pupil.In June 2016, the assistant head teacherat Putteridge High School was called todeal with a disruptive pupil who wasrefusing to go into a detention room.After clearing the classroom of the otherpupils, the pupil launched a sustainedassault on the teacher, using a mobilephone to inflict life-changing injuries.HSE found that there were significantshortcomings in relation to themeasures at the school regardingviolence and aggression posed by thepupils to others, no effectiveconsideration was given to the risk ofinjury or death and measures were nottaken to reduce the threat from pupilviolence to as low as reasonablypracticable.
