'We have experienced more change in the past 30 months than we did in the previous 30 years,' says Royal Mail's director of corporate responsibility and chief medical officer Dr Steve Boorman. As a result, Royal Mail has renegotiated its £70 million, five-year deal with Atos Origin (formerly SchlumbergerSema) to outsource employee health and medical services, so that the contract better supports its people and reflects the organisation's rapidly changing needs. 'Medical services have had to change to offer improved support to our people and meet the demands of a business that today is very different to what it was even three years ago,' says Boorman. Following nine months of discussion and service redesign with Atos Origin, the OH delivery model has now been completely revised to make it easier for managers to use, to provide a wider range of services and to focus on prevention and rehabilitation. In line with business demands, medical services will play a pivotal role in improving attendance levels among Royal Mail staff. Accompanying the revised contract is a new set of key performance indicators (KPIs), such as the time from referral to appointment, and, where appropriate, treatment.
