FIREFIGHTERS' RISK OF SUDDEN CARDIAC DEATH

Sudden cardiac death is the leading cause of death in on-duty US firefighters! accounting for 44% of all on-duty deaths from 1995 to 2004 (excluding those killed in the 2001 World Trade Centre disaster). This compares to around 22% of fatalities among on-duty police officers, n% among emergency medical workers and 15% of all deaths at work.
