It is recognised that most healthcare systems would not be able to cope with a surge in demand for existing isolation units in the event of a major outbreak of airborne infectious disease - either occurring naturally or through so-called bioterrorism.rnResearch from the University of Oklahoma has shown, however, that effective isolation may be possible using low-tech, inexpensive and easily built structures that can be constructed from readily available materials in an emergency-response situation.
