Flexible stress standards

1. The Management Standards for work-related stress are a set of six standards developed by the Health and Safety Executive to help organisations assess and control the risks to employees' health arising from work 2. The six standards are: demands; control; support; relationships; role; and change 3. The standards are accompanied by an 'Indicator tool', comprising a 35-item self-report questionnaire to identify specific sources of stress exposure 4. Since their launch in 2004, the Management Standards have been applied by organisations across the UK and beyond for the assessment and reduction of psychosocial risk at the group level 5. In response to the popularity of the Management Standards, the approach has been adapted in a number of innovative ways 6. The Management Standards are applicable at the case level and may be effective in the facilitation of return to work following a period of sickness absence.
