One of the leading cases in UK age discrimination law, Seldon v Clarkson Wright and Jakes, has finally run its course - after six years - with the claimant, Leslie Seldon, losing the remitted employment tribunal case. In 2012, the Supreme Court dismissed Seldon's appeal against the original tribunal's decision, which had been upheld by the Employment Appeal Tribunal, that the law firm of which he was a partner, was justified in imposing a compulsory retirement age.
