The carpal tunnel

The flexor retinaculum is a fibrous band between the hamate and pisiform bones medially in the wrist and the scaphoid and trapezium laterally. It forms the anterior aspect of the tunnel, which is bordered posteriorly by the carpal bones. The carpal tunnel contains the median nerve, and the flexor tendons of the fingers and thumb as they pass from the forearm into the hand. The median nerve is classically regarded as supplying sensation to the thumb, index, and middle fingers and adjacent half of the ring finger.
