The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has launched the first of a two-part consultation on revalidation. Part one will run until July this year and will consider how the NMC's proposed model of revalidation can be implemented in a variety of employment settings and practice areas. Nurses and midwives will be required to revalidate every three years and will be responsible for their own revalidation. Failure to revalidate will mean they will be removed from the register. All nurses and midwives will have to gather evidence of continuing professional development, in accordance with the new NMC code, standards and guidance, which will be published in December 2014. Revalidation is due to start in December 2015.
