1. The new revalidation system for nurses and midwives came into force in April 2016 2. All nurses and midwives will need to revalidate every three years, which will include maintaining a record of their practice hours, continuing professional development and reflective learning 3. The revalidation system is easy to follow using NMC resources 4. Registrants must undertake and record a minimum of 450 practice hours over each three-year period (or 900 if registered as a nurse and midwife) as well as 35 hours of relevant CPD 5. They must obtain five pieces of practice-related feedback, written five reflective accounts (referring to an instance of CPD, feedback, or an event/experience of professional practice) and had a reflective discussion with another NMC registrant 6. They must provide a health and character declaration, have appropriate cover under an indemnity arrangement, and arrange for a'confirmer'to verify the declarations made in the revalidation application 7. The role of confirmer is key to the success of this process and the aim of improving public protection.
