摘要

Weight loss can be achieved by any means of nenergy restriction, but the challenge is to achieve nsustainable weight loss and prevention of weight nregain. The increased incidence of obesity worldwide has npromoted interest in all kinds of dietary strategies including nthe low glycemic index diet. It is suggested that conventional nhigh-carbohydrate diets, even when based on whole-grain nfoods, increase postprandial glycemia and insulinemia that nmay compromise weight control via mechanisms relating to nappetite stimulation.n1n A common misconception to expedite nweight loss has been to refrain from eating high glycemic index foods. To understand why this may not be entirely ntrue or a nutritionally sound method of weight loss, the logic nbehind the glycemic index must first be explained.
