摘要

The Nuclear Energy Institute welcomed the news last week that the administration of President Donald Trump had extended waivers of sanctions against companies working with Iran’s nuclear energy program for an additional three months. The potential that the waivers would lapse had raised concerns that Russia’s state nuclear company Rosatom, which does work for Iran’s civilian nuclear program but also supplies a fifth of US enriched uranium, could be sanctioned, disrupting the supply of nuclear fuel. The State Department said in a statement late October 31 that it had extended “nuclear restrictions,” an apparent reference to the five waivers of US sanctions against Iran that affect work in that country’s nuclear energy program. That same terminology was used when the US previously extended the waivers July 31 for 90 days.
