AT LOS ALAMOS: LAB TO TOUT LDRD FUNDING ACHIEVEMENTS

Seeking to increase awareness about the value of funding for Laboratory-Directed Research and Development work, Los Alamos National Laboratory is unveiling many of the advancements that have been generated by LDRD funding this week. "A Look Into the Future of Los Alamos" will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Hilton Hotel at Buffalo Thunder Resort in Santa Fe, N.M., with presentations on research into "artificial" brains, electrical grids, disease modeling, and wind turbines. LDRD funding gives labs the ability to fund innovative projects that are not necessarily part of the budget-which has been a contentious issue between scientists who clamor for the money and critics who argue that more money should be spent on mission requirements.
