DOE ISSUES $1.3M FEE REDUCTION TO SRS CONTRACTOR FOR LABOR ISSUES

The Department of Energy earlier this month issued a $1.32 million fee reduction against Savannah River Site managing contractor Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) in response to labor-related issues. The fee reduction, according to DOE, is tied to SRNS's failure to abide by contract requirements when it developed a new collective bargaining agreement with the Augusta Building and Construction Trades Council as the contractor moved to take over management of the site last summer {NW&M Monitor, Vol. 13 No. 28). "One of the inherent purposes of these specific contract provisions is to ensure that DOE and its contractors work together to foster an environment of labor harmony while accomplishing the DOE mission. In this case, such harmony has been adversely affected by SRNS's noncompliance with this contract," says a July 2 letter to SRNS on the fee reduction provided by DOE last week.
