The Takahama nuclear power station on Japan's western coast has received the first shipment of reprocessed reactor fuel to arrive in Japan since the 2011 Fukushima disaster, although it will not be used until the facility gets government approval to restart its reactors. The fuel (MOX -a mixture of uranium and plutonium oxide) arrived on a freighter. Plant operator Kansai Electric Power Co. hopes to use the fuel once it receives approval restart its reactors, which could come by early 2014. All but two of Japan's 50 nuclear reactors have been closed for safety checks and upgrades following the March 2011 tsunami and earthquake which heavily damaged the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant.
