Bruce Power, OPG take next steps for new build

Plans by Ontario's two big nuclear operators, Bruce Power and Ontario Power Generation (OPG), to build new nuclear power plants have moved forward following recent decisions by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).rnIn regard to Bruce Power's application for a site preparation license to construct up to 4000 MWe of new capacity at its Bruce site, CNSC decided to refer the proposal to John Baird, Canada's minister of the Environment, asking that a review panel be set up, according to a May 7 announcement. A review panel would be expected to provide an extensive public consultation into the environmental implications of a project.
