Let it be known that there is no need to fear that the current fleet of nuclear power plants will go without maintenance, especially now that so many of them have already had or are in the process of having their licenses renewed. The Special Section on Nuclear Power Plant Maintenance in this October issue is a testament to the fact that there are numerous companies in the business of providing the necessary services to those plants to keep them at peak operating condition at all times. And, of course, that is what the nuclear power industry strives for-at all times. The number of plant license renewals that have already been approved (48), those that are being reviewed (18), and those (at the current time) that are expected to be submitted (at least 26) constitutes the vast majority of the plants operating today in the United States.
