TVA scales back to one reactor, at most

On August 7, the Tennessee Valley Authority announced that the supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS) for its Bellefonte site near Scottsboro, Ala., will address three possibilities: the construction of one new reactor, the completion of one unfinished reactor, or no nuclear generating capacity. This amounts to a substantial cutback by TVA, which applied to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for combined construction and operating licenses for two new Westinghouse AP1000 reactors and also had the NRC restore the construction permits for the two original unfinished reactors at the site.
