The watts bar-2 hearing process may soon take shape.The Tennessee Valley Authority submitted its updated operating license application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in March, and on April 9, the NRC informed Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen of its submission, saying that a notice would soon be published in the Federal Register to open the application to public requests for a hearing. TVA decided in 2007 to complete the construction of the long-delayed 1177-MWe pressurized water reactor near Spring City, Tenn. At the end of 2008, TVA estimated that the reactor was 70 percent complete and that power operation will begin by 2013.
