Loan agreement launches research reactor project

Work to construct Jordan's first reactor-the Jordan Research and Training Reactor (JRTR)-is officially under way following the signing of a $70-million loan agreement, on very favorable terms, with South Korea. The agreement was signed on July 26 by Jafar Hassan, Jordan's minister of planning and international cooperation, and Shin Bong-kil, South Korea's ambassador to Jordan. The remaining funding for the $130-million project will be provided by the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC).
