Changes to U.S. EPR I&C design planned for March

Areva NP, the designer and vendor or the U.S. EPR, notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on July 28 that it is developing an integrated closure plan that is intended to coordinate the design changes necessary to address the agency's concern over the reactor's instrumentation and control systems. At that time, Areva enclosed Revision 0 of the plan, covering three of the six areas of concern. Revision 1, to bring in a fourth area, was planned for August 4, and Revision 2, to complete the plan, would be delivered after a meeting with NRC staffers requested by Areva for later in August. Areva's goal is to complete all of the design changes called for in the plan by mid-March 2011.
