EU task force to seek ways to fund ITER

Since the May 5 alert by the European Commission that the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) will need more money (AW, June 2010, p. 118), the member states of the European Union have struggled with the issue of the additional financing from Europe, which must cover 45 percent of the project's costs under the agreements worked out by the EU and the six other participants in the project (China, India, Japan, Russia, South Korea, and the United States). The only agreement reached was on May 26, when the decision was made to establish a taskrnforce "to analyze possible options in order to find a sustainable solution," according to an EU announcement.
