Nuclear Radiation Interactions, by Sidney Yip. This volume is a treatment of the fundamentals of nuclear radiation interactions based on lecture notes the author began writing in the early 1970s while teaching a first-year graduate-level course in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. "During this period," Yip writes in the book's preface, "my motivation was to describe the basic concepts and models of interactions of nuclear radiation with matter in a compact and concise way. Although these topics were by no means neglected in the nuclear physics literature, a treatment suitable for nuclear engineering students with diverse backgrounds and career goals was lacking, in my opinion. In contrast to the traditional study of nuclear structure and associated properties, I felt the emphasis should be placed on the collisions and reactions that nuclear radiations undergo during interactions with their surroundings." Divided into three parts-"Nuclear Physics Background," "Unit Processes of Nuclear Radiation Interactions," and "Cumulative Effects of Nuclear Radiation Interactions"-the book is intended for advanced undergraduate or graduate students and researchers in nuclear physics.
