Reactor ratings for 2014 released

On March 6, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced that it had issued its annual performance assessment letters to the licensees of the 100 U.S. commercial nuclear power reactors in operation in 2014. As of the end of last year, according to the NRC, 94 reactors were listed in the two highest performance columns in the agency's five-column Reactor Oversight Process action matrix, with 75 of those units occupying the first and least scrutinized column, Licensee Response. (This group included Entergy's Vermont Yankee, which shut down permanently in late December [NN, Feb. 2015, p. 21]).
